New 3.5m Flatlift and Seeder Launched at Cereals 2008
This year sees the launch of the new variation to Spaldings’ range of Flatlift sub-surface cultivators. Following a period of careful market research and consultation with customers, Spaldings introduced several design changes to the configuration of the 3.5m Flatlift for the 2008 season.
One of the benefits is that the machine is now closer coupled to the tractor, which increases the traction to the tractor’s rear wheels and shortens the overall length of the machine when fitted with a disc toolbar and packer. This gives the machine much more manoeuvrability than before.
Based on a new two-beam design, two new models have been recently introduced; a four-leg and seven-leg variant. The four-leg variant has been designed for use on lighter and medium land where full subsoiling depth is not required. This allows the machine to give full shatter across the working width.
The seven-leg variant has been designed for use where growers want to sow oilseed rape directly behind the machine’s subsoil legs. This minimises establishment costs and removes the need for further cultivation from a toolbar.
The agronomy benefit of sowing in bands behind the subsoiler legs ensures the rape is seeded into a tilth and into some moisture in a dry year. It also means nitrogen and other nutrients are utilized further down in the soil profile.
The new seeder unit is based on the existing, tried and tested positive displacement feed roller design which has been introduced with a 200 litre hopper with up to eight seed outlets. When used with four, five and seven leg Flatlifts, sowing directly behind the legs, unused outlets are simply closed off.
All new 2008 designed 3.5m Flatlifts can be ordered from Spaldings as new machines fitted with auto-trip legs as standard. Kits are also available for retro-fit to the machines at a later date.
Spaldings’ Marketing Manager, Alastair Ramsay, said: “These new designs, together with the tried and tested current Flatlift toolbar, air seeder and grassland options, ensure that the Flatlift system has the versatility to cope with all weather conditions and crop establishment systems. Flatlift is the by-word for subsoil cultivators and these changes make sure that it remains ahead of its competitors and imitators.”
